A number of 2K Marin staff have been laid off and, while the publisher has not gone so far to confirm this, reports suggest the studio is functionally dead."We can confirm staff reductions at 2K Marin," an official statement from 2K
reads. "While these were difficult decisions, we regularly evaluate our development efforts and have decided to reallocate creative resources. Our goal to create world-class video game titles remains unchanged."

Rock Paper Shotgun said that the studio is "essentially" closed. Staff that have been retained are moving to work at 2K's new Novato operation being headed up by Rod Fergusson.
"A couple of weeks ago, the new 2K team in Novato interviewed and made offers to a small number of 2K Marin team members," an anonymous ex-2K Marin employee said. "I don't know exactly how many, but it wasn't a lot. It sounds like everyone who was not offered a position on that team was let go today."
2K Marin was the studio behind
BioShock 2 and, more recently,
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.
