According to GFK Chart-Track, 2,532,731 games were sold in the UK last week - and most of them were copies of GTA V.
UK games retail made over £100m last week from software sales alone - it doesn't include console or accessory sales, which also grew.
The mammoth title sold 2.25 million copies within the first five days of its release - that's 250,000 more copies than the previous record setter, Call of Duty: Black Ops
Major retailers have been praising GTA V
- HMV boss Phil Browes said “GTA V
was the fastest selling game in HMV history. Midnight openings were a huge success, and most stores sold out by lunchtime on day one.”
So there you go, GTA V
has set records left, right and centre, and boosted UK game retail sales massively - and perhaps there's much more to come when GTA Online is released next week.
