SEGA of Europe has filed a trademark for a product titled 'Sonic Lost World', suggesting that a new title in the iconic franchise isn't far from a full reveal. The game is listed on the
trademarks and design registration office website, and covers multiple realms - including "video game software," "video game discs and cartridges," "downloadable music via a global computer network and wireless devices" and, interestingly, "computer game software for use on mobile and cellular phones."
No further details are given, and it's unlikely we'll hear anything more before E3 at the very latest - but it does suggest a plan by SEGA to explore a multi-platform strategy with Sonic that encompasses traditional console experiences and mobile devices. It could, mind you, just be SEGA covering all bases on the trademark.
There's nothing to suggest that this is the next major Sonic title either, although the timing of the trademark would make sense given that a reveal of this is expected soon.
Either way, it's a good week for Sonic fans overall, with the
release of the Sonic 1 remaster on iOS and the equally stealth-launch of
Sonic 1 3D on Nintendo 3DS in Japan.
