We thought Kratos' tale was completed when God of War III was released. Apparently not, according to Sony's Santa Monica studio. Although the developer considered working on an entirely new project, director Shannon Studsill admitted that the popularity of the PlayStation IP lured them back to tell a new tale."There are creative reasons and business reasons," she told
ShackNews when asked why they decided to work on upcoming PS3 title
Ascension. "I think there was still some story to tell."
Studsill explained that there was a lot to improve upon following its work on
God of War III too. "I think for the single-player game, there were systems that we wanted to enhance. Not to diss
God of War III, as that was tough to go from PS2 to PS3, but our focus for
God of War III was very tools and engine-focused. And now what we're trying to do is catch up a bit in terms of systems we wanted to improve upon."
And there's multiplayer, obviously. So the team isn't interested on working on Orbis - or PlayStation 4 - anytime soon? "I don't know what you're talking about," Studsill said. "The PS3 is a very powerful machine, and we definitely feel like we're taxing it, but it continuously surprises us."
