So Rovio has formally announced the release of Angry Birds: Star Wars for iOS and Android on November 8th. It's a new game in the bird-flinging series that will see our favourite feathered heroes dress up as characters from George Lucas' popular sci-fi franchise.Wait, sorry. We were wrong, apparently. "They are not Angry Birds dressed up as Star Wars characters," declares Lucasfilm’s president of licensing and consumer products marketing, Paul Southern. "They are characters in their own right."
Erm... okaaaay?
Nevertheless, the mashup of two IPs such as this is bound to set the tongues wagging of kids and adults that haven't yet become depressed with the
Star Wars movies. Gameplay will be plucked from the previously-released
Angry Birds: Space, with lead characters assuming the role of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Chewbacca and Darth Vader.
And as you would expect with anything
Star Wars related, expect a glut of merchandise released between now and Christmas time.
