Whatever you may think of it, Sony's new super-slim PlayStation 3 appears to be doing something right. The 500GB edition of the top-loading console was launched on Friday, and has already contributed to a 138 per cent sales increase over the previous week in the UK.According to Chart Track data, the 500GB super-slim accounted for 37 per cent of all PS3s sold this past week. Not bad for a console launched three days ago. It's thought that the release of FIFA 13, as well as the PS3 super-slim FIFA 13 console bundle, has a part to play in the sales boost.
What will be interesting to see is whether Sony can enjoy the same lift in a couple weeks' time, as it plans to launch a second super-slim model with 12GB flash memory on October 12th as an entry-level offering.
The news comes as SCE France proudly announces that it has sold over 4 million PS3 consoles in the country, with Sony's platform the only one to see growth in a domestic industry that is seeing a general decline. The PS3 is reportedly the leading console in France and most of mainland Europe.
