Sony: 3D Gaming Not Hugely Important Right Now
Sony once made a big, big deal out of 3D home entertainment. These days, it's much more quiet about the whole thing. It's probably fair to say that the company has decided to put the brakes on marketing the technology somewhat - a fact that SCEE UK boss Fergal Gara confirmed over the weekend.

When asked by Eurogamer how the push is going for 3D, and whether it's still important, Gara said, "Consumers decide how relevant it is. It's fair to say consumers have decided it's not hugely important at this time. It's a capability we've got. It may have a bigger life a little further down the line.

"It's great we can do it. It doesn't seem to be the most powerful USP at the moment, so you've seen us shift our effort onto fresh new exciting IP. I'm certainly really pleased to see the strength of that as we look into next year. We've seen a resurgence really with the strength of the output from the studio network."

Gara added that watching films and playing games in 3D at home, using glasses, "isn't hugely popular," and that glasses-free 3D might be quite a far way off from hitting the mainstream consumer market.
