PS3 and Vita can already do all that stuff

Sony Bitch-Slaps Nintendo's Wii U as Old Tech
Sony's continuing not to be worried one little bit about what the competition is doing with its tech. No way, not a jot. Not worried. This is why Sony Computer Entertainment America VP of marketing, handhelds and home consoles (Phew) John Koller has said what he's said about the Wii U.

"We tell our PlayStation fans all the time that what the Wii U is offering is something that Vita and PS3 can do quite easily." He says this because "almost all" PlayStation Vita owners are also PlayStation 3 owners", you see.

And he doesn't stop there.

"It's dependent on the content. So we need to make sure the content isn't force fed. And, to us, making sure that the gamer receives the right type of experience is what's most important. So we're going to pick our spots, but that technology does certainly exist here."

Ah, all vita owners own a ps3 but not all ps3 owners have a vita. the vita playerbase is limited and expensive so if a game was made soley for the vita/ps3 combo itd have a limited player base, not have enough money and would inevitaby fail. also there will be more of a chance of lag as the vita was not made soley for the ps3 unlike the gamepad for the wiiu.

Did Sony and MS dismiss the original wii as old tech?

PS3 / Vita connectivity will be about as popular as it was with GC / GBA.

The special features will never be anything more than tacked on save for a few special games because no publisher is going to spend money on such a niche feature whereas wii u devs (admittedly not all of them) will be building games around the new controller.

No bitch slap involved here fanboys. Just the same old Sony trying to puff up their chests as they continue to have their asses handed to them in the VG market. Why else would they have spent the capital to try and emulate the Wii like MS? Sony has always had a serious "little man's syndrome" since Nintendo kicked them to the curb with the SNES CDROM. This is nothing new. Sad and pathetic? Yes indeed.

They used half the budget of each individual Wii U on that darn tablet controller and I guarantee that 95% of Wii U games will either use the tablet controller really poorly or they won't use it at all. The tablet controller only gets 3-5 hours of battery life and has a 480p screen and it costs $178 in Japan, I guarantee it'll cost $150 or more in the USA.

The Wii U is a glorified current-gen system posing as next-gen, from a technical standpoint it's extremely disappointment and it's clearly not designed with third-party developers in mind. The PS4 and 720 will push technology forward in the game industry while the Wii U will hold it back, all because some Nintendo executives are greedy assholes and prefer good profit margins to the end-user experience. Screw Nintendo, I'm so glad I quit playing on their systems when the horrendous 3DS released.

@Vigo_the_Carpathian They did dismiss it as old tech and they were right. Nintendo struck gold with the Wii, though, and casuals ate it up like mad. They lost most of their core gamer fanbase(the more profitable gamers) due to the horrendous third-party support of the Wii and the mostly unimpressive first-party titles(with a few gems here and there, like Galaxy). The Wii pretty much died at retail in 2010 and casual gamers have moved on to smartphone "gaming" and Kinect, they're not gonna repeat their success with the Wii U. They certainly can't sell the Wii U on that tablet controller as well as they could with the Wii remote, no contest. I hope Nintendo goes software-only or cancels the Wii U and replaces it with a system that isn't total ass, sadly it's extremely unlikely that they'll cancel the Wii U. It'd definitely be nice if they stopped worrying about releasing low-quality hardware and instead just made games, that's pretty much the only thing they're good at and they'd reach a much larger market if they released their titles multiplatform. Oh well, I guess it's more profitable to rip off their millions of mindless fanboys with low-quality hardware.
