Zynga Counter-Sues EA, Claims Sims Similarity is "Standardisation" of "Life Sim Genre"

Take a look at The Sims. Then take a look at The Ville. The visual similarity between the two is the reason why Electronic Arts is taking Zynga to court. But Zynga has retaliated, by denying it has ripped off EA and Maxis' design and by claiming the FIFA giant is breaking anti-trust laws.

Apparently, The Ville isn't derived from The Sims at all. What's actually happened is that an unavoidable similarity has been caused simply due to the standardisation of “the life simulation genre”. It has dismissed EA's lawsuit as "redundant, immaterial, impertinent and/or scandalous matter that is unfairly prejudicial to Zynga."

EA, naturally, isn't happy. A statement reads, "This is a predictable subterfuge aimed at diverting attention from Zynga's persistent plagiarism of other artists and studios. Zynga would be better served trying to hold onto the shrinking number of employees they've got, rather than suing to acquire more."

Grab some popcorn, kids, this is going to get interesting.
