What do you do when you've relied on Facebook as a source of income for years and want to branch off into the big, bad world? Just ask the boss of hyper-successful social gaming company Zynga, Mark Pincus. If his words are any indication, a presence on Microsoft's Xbox could be on the cards. In an interview with GigaOM on the possibility of cross-device compatibility, Pincus said that Zynga's work on back-end technology could lead the company to see its games easily carried over to home consoles on top of mobile devices. "Right now we are building back-end technology, so that your game state can be saved and served up in difference screens/devices.
"The interaction cues will take from the different devices. In other words, you can play a game on a computer and call it up on Xbox and you resume from the point you left off, except the game play will now be customized for the Xbox controller."
Of course, he mentions the Xbox quite happily there, but no firm announcement has been made on Zynga's plans in that sector of the gaming world. It would make sense though, if the company is aiming for a platform-free, backend-reliant solution.
