With the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim imminent, it seems like everyone is trying to jump on the Bethesda bandwagon. The game is coming to PS3, 360 and PC but will not be available on any Nintendo platform. However, in an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine, Pete Hines from Bethesda has talked about the possibility of designing for the Wii-U in the future.

This doesn't mean that Skyrim is going to be ported though. Creating titles for multiple consoles, especially those with wildly different control systems, is "a pretty huge undertaking" according to the Vice President of PR at Bethesda. "All of the localisation you have to do... all of the testing you have to do... on every platform in every language... you aren't just supporting the Wii U; You're supporting it in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish."

The question of whether or not the Wii-U would be able to handle something as graphically sumptuous as Skyrim wasn't broached, but Hines is hopeful that Bethesda could develop something for the system in the future. "We'll look at any platform that will support that games we're trying to make," he says, "but that's the key thing - the console has to support the game as it is designed."

We take it that means no specially converted editions of Bethesda titles then. However, it would be interesting to see how the company would use the Wii-U's new control systems. Perhaps we'll see Elder Scrolls VI on a Nintendo console one day? Whatever happens, the full interview is available in the latest issue of the magazine.
