Gamers may well be chomping at the bit for the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic but that doesn't mean that BioWare is rushing it. In fact, EA's Chief Financial Officer Eric Brown has told investors that they may not announce a release date until the end of October. On top of that, the game could even be pushed back to 2012.Brown stated “In terms of timing we haven't given a street date yet. We won't do so for some time, possibly at our next upcoming earnings call towards the end of October. We did hold out a slight possibility that it could slip to our March quarter. And the factors that would cause a slip is, for example, us not being completely satisfied with the scalability testing, and wanting to tune it for several extra weeks.” In English? They haven't decided on a release date yet. However, it's still got the community worried enough that BioWare felt the need to send a representative out and try to calm them down.
Stephen Reid posted on the
SWTOR forums that the team is still definitely aiming for a release before the end of the year even if "there's always the possibility of slippage." With this being one of the biggest games that BioWare has ever tackled, it wouldn't be a surprise if there were a slip, but surely gamers would be happier to have a great game that works perfectly than an average one with a couple of bugs that slipped though?
Be patient, young padawan. It'll be done when it's done.
