Sony confirmed the launch date of its new handheld at its Tokyo Game Show conference along with a raft of launch titles. A mix of well-known franchises and brand new IPs will be available for Vita from December 17th. Japanese gamers will be able to preorder the new system from the middle of October along with over twenty new games.

New RPGs include Lord of Apocalypse and Ys: Celceta, Sea of Trees. A remake of the classic Ninja Gaiden Sigma is due, as well as new WipeOut, Katamari Damacy and Ridge Racer titles. Sports fans get FIFA and F1 2011 to satisfy their competitive urges.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is a system exclusive from Capcom, while those who can't get enough angling will no doubt love to hear that the Bass Fishing series is also making its way to Vita. Always important to get a fishing game out for launch.

The full list is below:

Hell's Army
DJ Max Technika

I was wondering what happened to Monster Hunter, Yakuza and Lost Planet, all of which were shown at the PlayStation Meeting event earlier in the year in tech demo form... is Sony hanging on to some biggies for the keynote?
