Man in Real Car Beats Other Men in Fake Cars in Race
David Clouthard is as exciting as it sounds! Really!
Such thrills cannot be expressed in mere words.
Remember last week when Formula 1 driver David Coulthard was taking on the best Gran Turismo 5 players that the UK had to offer? The video of the event is now available and, as expected, the square-faced charisma void took the honours.
Racing around the Top Gear Test Track, reality won – but only just. With Coulthard and the gamers ragging a Mercedes Benz SLS around the track, pundits thought that the virtual drivers would claim victory when the conditions in the real world took a turn for the worse. Despite the rain, the flying laps came in and when all was said and done, the professional was champion by a shade over half a second.
While no-one was able to take down Coulthard, the fastest virtual racer was rewarded with a VIP prize, a trip to the Brazilian Grand Prix. 31-year-old Jason Birt was "really happy to have won the virtual race and be going to Brazil." Well of course you would be. You're going to bloody BRAZIL FOR NOTHING. He'd probably be a little more enthusiastic if he'd actually won the car though.
Gran Turismo 5 players are now invited to take place in another one of the game's seasonal events, this one being the imaginatively titled 'Mercedes Benz Driving Event'. Running until September 26th, the race is on to become the best. No prizes for that one, mind, just bragging rights.
