Motomu Toriyama, the director of the forthcoming Final Fantasy XIII-2, has let slip a bit of information about a release date. Nothing as specific as when it'll actually be out, of course. However, he's stated that the big reveal will take place at this week's Tokyo Game Show. The Japanese release is due in December, but when pressed for something more specific at a fan event in Tokyo this weekend, Toriyama said that fans wouldn't have to wait too long for the actual date. In a Q&A session, other aspects of the Square Enix title were also covered; the possibility of downloadable content is being actively looked into, as are limited edition versions of the game.
Cross compatability with
FFXIII is also promised, with bonuses available to players in the new game if a save file for the original is found. Over 150 monsters will be available to control, each one with special abilities. Toriyama also promises minigames aplenty but insists that the playing time will actually be less than its predecessor.
With the introduction of a time-travel system and a bunch of new characters (as well as the return of many from
FFXIII), this latest game in the long-running series promises much. Will it deliver, though? With sections of the game available to play through at TGS, impressions will be filtering out soon. SPOnG will report back as soon as we start hearing things, be they good or bad.
