Rumour: Tipstar Claims Wii U in 'Development Hell'
Lock your doors, barricade your windows and find your nearest trough of salt - an alleged 'Nintendo insider' has fired up a damaging rumour about the Wii U, stating the console is facing "development hell."

Prototypes of the new machine were available to play at E3 this year, but according to the anonymous tipster "it seems that the final architecture has been rushed through the door, with undesirable consequences."

The controller was highlighted as a major issue, with developers rumoured to be using a tethered controller that "does not work properly" due to "inadequate" streaming capabilities. "Many developers are feeling lost, their progress impeded by a distinct lack of visibility, their working hours by the quasi-paced daily software updates," reads the report on 01.net.

Things get flimsy when the tipster talks about the scheduling of the console - despite there being no release date for the Wii U, it will apparently see a 'delay' of a couple of months. Developers are said to believe that Nintendo would launch the Wii U in June 2012 - which is a little bit stupid, if you want our opinion. A 'delay' would also negate the allegations of Nintendo "rushing" the tech out of the door. Always nice to have rumours that contradict themselves.

Anyway, we've put in a call to Nintendo for comment. We'll let you know if they get back to us with the usual 'no comment' spiel. Because hey, we're nice like that.

Surely is "has been rushed" and is now being "delayed" to correct the errors brought up by being rushed?

I'm assuming it was rushed to be presented at E3 this year because Nintendo had nothing else of note to announce.

Surely if you're 'delaying' the release of something, regardless of the reason, then you're not 'rushing something out of the door'?

The architecture was rushed out of the door, that's not the product.

If the architecture was rushed, i.e. the hardware was quickly, and by implication badly, designed, then the software side of things will take longer to get right, hence delays.

Or, if the hardware is bad, it may be being revised, which will cause delays.

Lets face it, Ninty isn't going to release something that RRODs on us like Microsoft did, so the fact it's being delayed is a good thing I think.

Having worked on games hardware prior to its release to market, I can safely say "move along, nothing to read here".

Dev hardware goes through various revisions before release and some poor devs have to work with buggy hardware. It gets fixed. If it didn't, they'd not be able to release it into the wild or they pay out a massive chunk replacing faulty hardware.

As for the wireless controllers, even the Wii devkits come with wired wiimotes as standard as you just can't run too much wireless equipment in the same area without problems.
