Capcom has officially pulled the plug on Mega Man Legends 3, its experiment in getting fans involved with the development process in a game that was supposed to be released on the 3DS.A Capcom Unity
blog post tells us that
MML3 was supposed to give gamers a window into the world of development, but that "Part of this process includes an assessment of whether the title will go into full production, and is based on a number of criteria with input from different sectors of the company.
"Unfortunately it was not felt that the
Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the
Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game."
Capcom didn't elaborate on what criteria the project failed to meet. It did state, however, that "The cancellation of the MML3 project is in no way related to
Inafune-san leaving the company."
That said, this is the second
Mega Man game to get cancelled this year, following
Mega Man Universe down the pan.
The game's online Dev Room will remain open in a limited capacity to enable those involved to remain in touch.
