Nintendo - Wii U Pricing at £150 Says Iwata
Nintendo president Saturo Iwata has said that he estimates that Wii U will cost in the region of 20,000 Yen, which will bring it in at around £150 when it arrives in 2012.

However, it is not expected that you'll be able to buy it as a standalone device if a spokesperson at a Nintendo booth at E3 is to be believed.

The unnamed rep told CVG, "Both the controller and the console will be sold as one unit. You won't be able to buy the controller alone."

This would appear to be an insane idea considering the number of people who already own Wiis and would be looking to add the new controller (or platform or console depending on who is talking).

Based on those Vita pricing figures from Sony, I'd expect 20,000 Yen to come in at 200 Euro, which using the industry standard "convert to pounds and round up" method of pricing gives about £180.

Spong, from what you've seen, is the WiiU controller actually compatible with Wii?

Lets get this straight, the wii U is a brand new console that is backward compatible with the wii. The controller will only work on the wii U.

Tim Smith's comment makes no sense, whatsoever. Does Tim not realize that the Wii U is actually new HARDWARE and not just a controller? The Wii U controller is NOT backwards-compatible with the Wii. The Wii U can use the old Wii controllers, yes, but the Wii U is a new platform. I wish the author would have done even a modicum of research before writing this useless article.

If extra controllers are not to be sold seperatly i wonder if a freind can bring his round and two will work and if not it seems the multiplayer of this console is very limited! which is also insane as the Wii was built on the multiplayer aspects of family gaming etc, everything just seems rushed, its like nintendo wanted to be first out of the door this time round but with a march 2013 (possible) launch date for the UK, i expect MS will be showcasing the prototypes of the next xbox with a 2013 launch date. i really htink Nintendo should of concentrated on creating some must have 2012 Wii games and spent much of this and next year actually refining this product and getting some talent on-board, it would of been nice to see some Battlefield and GTA rocking this new generation for nintendo.
