In perhaps one of the most ironic game tie-ups in recent memory, Rovio has announced that a new edition of Angry Birds will be released to coincide with the launch of animated feature film Rio.
The film is about a domesticated Macaw called Blu who gets thrown into the wild life after being kidnapped in Rio de Janeiro. In complete contrast to Blu's meek and shy personality, Angry Birds is - if you've been living under a rock - about flinging a group of raging avians into the houses of some egg-stealing pigs.
Angry Birds Rio then, will involve similar gameplay as the cast of the original iPhone game try to rescue Blu, female protagonist Jewel, and a host of other fellow birds from their evil captors. 45 levels are planned, with downloadable stages available via future updates. It's slated for a 'smart phone and tablet' release in March 2011.
