UK Game Devs Group in 'Good Health' Shocker
Despite recent closures of high profile UK games developers such as Bizarre Creations and Realtime Worlds, the UK trade association for games development (Tiga) is in good health according to its original founders.

Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley and Blitz CEO Philip Oliver spoke with wesbite GamesIndustryBiz regarding the organisation's tenth anniversary. Oliver said of the industry body:

"There have been times over the years where its future has looked a little bit precarious, but I'd say it's probably at its strongest right now, and gathering momentum."

Kingsley added that looking back over the last ten years, one of TIGA's biggest achievements is the growth and evolution the association has seen, allowing it to become representative of various companies. He said of TIGA's value:

"As chair I've always been very aware that Rebellion is one of the larger independent games developers, and while we speak with a loud voice, the organisation is there to represent all games development companies - not just mine."

Oliver added his views on how challenging it can be for start-up companies to come into the industry, explaining that:

"One of the reasons why we, as the big companies, can look out for the small guys is because that was us not so long ago."

"We very much see through their eyes - the one-man bedroom coders, the guys that are just starting up, the guys who are ten people, or fifty or bigger."

Its good to see that TIGA is still going strong after ten years helping the games industry. Do you wish it a healthy future from here onwards? Let SPOnG know what you think in the Comments section below.
