Sony Planning 27th January Reveal of PSP2
Sony is preparing to formally announce the existence of its next PlayStation Portable device at an event in Tokyo on 27th January, it has been revealed.

Publishers were reportedly told late last year of plans from the hardware manufacturer to lift the lid on the PSP2, giving them time to discuss whatever support they may be planning for the new system.

The press event in Japan will be the first time that concrete details will be made about the PSP2's form factor - rumours originally hinted at a sliding design similar to the PSP Go, but in recent months it has been said that this has changed to look more akin to the PSP-3000 series.

SPOnG has contacted Sony for official comment. We will report back if we hear any word back.

"concrete details will be made about the PSP2's form factor"

Any danger they are also going to let us know the media type too? Would be pretty useful to us developers.

I don't see why it wouldn't, to be honest. Like you said, it's a pretty important thing for developers to know about. I would have thought, with rumours of kits going around, that developers/publishers would have had an idea about this already though.

I'm sitting about 3 feet from a PSP2 kit. There is no word about storage as yet.

Oh dear! Not very handy when you're trying to nail down just how big to make those assets. Still, announcing a new console, handheld or otherwise, and not stating what the software medium will be would be a bit bonkers
