The motion capture studio used by Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream, the Virtual Actor Studio, has gone through a refurbishment to improve its existing facilities. The facility is now decked out with 64 optical cameras, capable of facial and body motion capture tpgether with voice acting simultaneously. The studio has said it will allow for the highest level of precision to date.
Studio renovations took two months, involved the purchase of a T160 Vicon system and soundproof curtains fitted around the main work stage.
Quantic Dream co-studio CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière said of the renovation:
“Capturing actors’ complete performance in a single take with high fidelity is essential to render the highly realistic 3D characters people expect nowadays in high-definition games and movies, and that is precisely what our new studio can deliver on."
Looking forward to Quantic Dream's next title in the pipeline? And what do you make of motion capture in games nowadays? Any thoughts, feel free to post them down below.
