We're still infant an industry that we heartily celebrate the 'birthdays' of lifeless machines. But we only live once, so who does that harm? So, as it's the Xbox 360's fifth anniversary today, Microsoft continued the tradition by announcing that the Xbox 360 has been the number one console in Europe and the US for the last five months.
In a statement that listed all of the console's achievements (introducing HD gaming, Achievements themselves, exclusives like Halo and Gears of War, the New Xbox Experience and social networking to name a few), Microsoft UK proudly exclaimed that its machine has "morphed into a true entertainment powerhouse, successfully delivering an amazing array of gaming, movie, music and TV experiences to millions of owners here in the UK and around the world."
More than 45 million Xbox 360s have been sold worldwide, and Microsoft aims to keep the sales ticking for the next five years with the recently-launched Kinect.
Xbox UK boss Stephen McGill said that "Families are looking for more value than ever this Christmas and looking to stretch their money.
"An Xbox 360 console and Kinect can bring everyone together this season and entertain every single member of the family, from kids to grandparents. And with Kinect for Xbox 360, all you need is your voice, hands and body to jump into the controller-free fun."
