Kaz Hirai Tipped as Next Sony CEO
Sony is rumoured to be preparing some big executive changes at the top, with Vice President Kaz Hirai tipped to replace Howard Stringer as CEO.

According to Bloomberg, Stringer intends to stay on board until at least March 2013 while the electronics corporation undergoes a continuing change in structure. In the meantime, there is a headhunt going on behind the scenes to appoint his successor.

Hirai is said to be a hot contender for the job since his rise to president of Sony Computer Entertainment in 1999. A year ago, SPOnG was certain he would eventually become the company's CEO - looks like our predictions were bang on the money.

Resona Bank Ltd's Kohi Toda said that his tenure as CEO will be remembered more for "earning time and energy for Sony to get ready for the next growth," and stopping "the company from bleeding" rather than any immediate growth. Since Stringer took the chair in June 2005, Sony's share price has dropped 25 per cent, thanks to strong competition from Nintendo and Apple.
