PlayStation 2 Still Japanese Gamer's Console of Choice
The PlayStation 2 is still commanding a lot of game time in Japanese households, more than ten years after its domestic launch.

The General Consumer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA) conducted an exit survey to 1,000 Tokyo Game Show attendees this year. When asked to order the gaming platforms they play the most, the PS2 came out on top with 70% overall margin.

The Nintendo DS came in second at 68.7 per cent with the PSP just behind it at 68.6 per cent. The Wii followed with 56.7 per cent, and the PlayStation 3 came fifth with 47.7 per cent. The Xbox 360 came in tenth (19.6 per cent), falling behind the Game Boy Advance, PSOne, Nintendo DSi and DSi LL and even the Gamecube.

From the same survey, people were most looking forward to buying a Nintendo 3DS next year (33 per cent) followed by a PlayStation 3 (31 per cent) and an Xbox 360 (23 per cent). Wii made up 18 per cent of the new hardware wishlist, and PSP came last at 12 per cent.

@mrAnthony "and even" refers to Xbox 360 ranking behind others. PSOne sold an imperial crap load of units in its lifetime, so there's a much better chance that the respondents would rank it. Gamecube didn't feel the love so much, in this survey or in sales, hence the "and even". With 360 isn't not so much a matter of not feeling the JP love, but rather a case of feeling the indifference.
