Diablo senior designer Jason Bender and art director Christian Lichtner have been chatting about Diablo III, sharing details on the upcoming title and why it won't appear on consoles anytime soon.

The duo were asked why no release date has been announced for the latest instalment in the famed RPG series yet, to which Bender replied that the studio is more comfortable announcing a date when the game is nearing the stages of completion rather than an arbitrary announcement at the recent Blizzcon held last week.

The duo also tackled the question of balancing in the title where any one class in Diablo III could have up 97 billion potential builds, a physically impossible number to tackle through the testing process.

Litchner replied that although it is impossible, the developer's focus is very much on refining the PVE experience. Bender added that there will be balance but the developer is not worried about getting the optimal build for each class complete for the games launch. There is an emphasis on prioritising a user-friendly experience, one where you can't help but just have fun.

Bender and Litchner were also asked for their opinions on why Diablo III will not be coming to consoles. Bender replied that the developer is concentrating mainly on the PC version for now but bringing the franchise to consoles is the source of ongoing internal debate at Blizzard. Litchner added that he sees the Diablo series as one of those franchises that would translate to consoles well.

Would you like to see Diablo III see a firs-time jump for the franchise to consoles? And do you intend to pick up the game when it comes out? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

I've lost count of the amount of hours, days and probably weeks I've lost to the previous games!

I'm now a mainly console gamer, however this is the only PC game I'm waiting for (as Portal 2 is coming to consoles) as it stirring up emotions about games I haven't had for a while and that is a game I must buy the very second it's released.

It would be great to see it come to consoles, as Bender said it should translate well.
