The singling out of EA's Medal of Honor by Defence Secretary Liam Fox has been branded "unfair" by an unlikely ally - Treyarch's studio boss, Mark Lamia.Fox recently called the
Medal of Honor reboot "thoroughly un-British" due to its controversial multiplayer mechanic of allowing gamers to play as the Taliban. But Lamia defended the role of video games that cover touchy historical periods.
"We cover the Cold War era [in
Call of Duty: Black Ops] and there are definitely some controversial topics in there. But I look at it as creating a piece of entertainment and we are strong advocates of creative freedom," he told
MCV.
"Our story weaves itself around all kinds of controversial historical periods, but there have been many books and movies that do that, so to single out games in that way seems unfair."
Medal of Honor came out of the furore on track for its 15th October release, while
Call of Duty: Black Ops will be hitting store shelves on 9th November.
