High Voltage Software, the studio behind SEGA's Wii shooter The Conduit, has reportedly suffered a layoff of "at least" 20 employees. Joystiq is citing a "trusted source" that reveals that the final tally could be "a lot more" than 30 staffers.HVS is currently working on a sequel to the 2009 sci-fi first-person shooter, after the
original sold 350,000 copies. In light of the sales, creative director Eric Nofsinger admitted that sales were "impacted" by market conditions on the Wii platform.
The gladiatorial fighting game
Tournament of Legends, HVS's last release and also on the Wii, did not sit well with critics in comparison. The studio is eager to "fixing those issues that we have control over in our future games," although it seems apparent that the Wii audience might not be taking to the hardcore offering.
High Voltage Software was not available to comment on the Joystiq story.
