Developers: Kinect's Best Games 2 Years Away
Microsoft's motion-sensing device, Kinect, will launch this Autumn - but the best games won't be available for it until 2012. That's according to both Gamesbrief founder Nicholas Lovell and Yoostar CEO Greg Fischbach, who believe that the new technology will take some time for developers to understand.

The comments echo similar statements made by Sega West President Mike Hayes - he said that his company is working on a 'hardcore Kinect game,' but because of the device's sophistication it won't be ready for another 18 months.

Said Fischbach to MCV: "Some of the initial games take advantage of it, but I think we will see the most creative games in 18 to 24 months. It will take that long for us to figure out how to do it – like when a new console is released, it takes a couple of years for everyone to figure out how to use all the bells and whistles."

Lovell agreed with the sentiment, adding that "it always takes a while for developers to get the hang of the unique nature of a new platform. The initial games that I’ve seen are mainly derivative. I really look forward to the games that will come out once the device has been in the market for a year or more."

All of this goes beyond Epic's Mark Rein's comments in an interview with SPOnG, where he stated that, " I don't think by February and April of 2011 we're going to have a clear picture of the install base and who the customers are that have Move and Kinect yet. I think we're going to need a couple more months after that."

With the technology and games industry as fickle as it is, can Microsoft afford to wait 18 to 24 months for Kinect to pick up steam? Would you wait that long for a killer app for the device? Let us know in the forum below.

Not even 18000 to 24000 years of motion control brainwashing would be enough to get me to want to play these so-called hardcore games.
