Titles Removed from Xbox Live - Game Room or Publisher Problems?

Licensing issues not Game Room.

Cyberball, Defender,Paperboy,Rootbeer Tapper,Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3,Robotron,Joust,Gauntlet and Smash TV were all removed from Xbox Live today.

Surely this must be to do with the upcoming 'Game Room' young people's area on Xbox Live? Not so according to Major Nelson.

As our American cousins would say as code for "He says", the Major reaches out via Twitter to share the following info game-removal-wise going forward:

"FYI: Some XBLA titles are no longer available for purchase from Xbox LIVE Arcade due to publisher evolving rights and permissions..."

Yeah, right, Major. It's Game Room, right?

"If you purchased any of those titles...you will still be able to play them or redownload 'em. An no, it's not Game room related."

Oh. Apparently it is licensing. So, remakes of Cyberball, Defender,Paperboy,Rootbeer Tapper,Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3,Robotron,Joust,Gauntlet & Smash TV then?

Those are all Atari and Williams titles... Probably either an Arcade compilation, or some kind of exclusivity agreement with N or S?

Am I wrong, or do I remember reading that Warner Bros bought all the Midway stuff? It might have just been the Mortal Kombat franchise though.

Changing logos and licenses and things might explain it.
