Bruckheimer's Next Video Game Movie Writer Named
Remember 2K's Shattered Union? If not, we said, "Hooray! Hooray for old school hexagonal tiled, turn based strategy games!" and you can get more info here.

Well, uber-Hollywood producer, Jerry Bruckheimer is - according to Variety - "tapping J. Michael Straczynski to adapt" it into a movie.

J. Michael Straczynski who? Well, J. Michael wrote episodes of Murder She Wrote, Babylon 5, Walker Texas Ranger; he also penned The Changeling starring Ms Angelina Jolie.

However, to alleviate your fears regarding Mr Straczynski's credentials, according to the Comic Con site, he "currently (that's 2006) writes The Amazing Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, Supreme Power, and The Book of Lost Souls for Marvel Comics", as well as Murder She Wrote.

Bear in mind that "Mike Stenson and Chad Oman will exec produce the project at Jerry Bruckheimer Films, which is readying Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for the Mouse House to release next summer, based on Ubisoft's vidgame franchise".

The 'Mouse House' being Disney in case you're not hip to the movie vibe, erm, cats

As far as Babylon 5 goes, as well as creating the show, Straczynski wrote 92 of the 110 episodes, including the entire third and fourth seasons, something he claims has never been done before. That's a bit more than "wrote episodes of".

I nearly fell off the floor when I saw JMS' writing credit at the end of The Changeling. The quality of the dialogue alone was miles better than the stuff he wrote for B5, which I often felt lacked subtlety or credibility. I guess the ability to hone a couple of hours' script, versus hundreds of hours might have help. Maybe I'm just smarting from the horror that was "The Lost Tales" spinoff...
