Rumour: AMD Already Awarded Next Xbox GPU Contract?
Rumour mill turns on next graphics processor deal for Microsoft.
Fudzilla is claiming that AMD has won the license for Microsoft's next Xbox console with its ATI GPU. No official announcement has been made so this is being filed in the 'pinch of salt' category.
Apparently Microsoft was satisfied with the Xeon GPU and wanted to continue with the AMD partnership. If true, it should mean little to no backwards compatibility problems in a future Xbox.
"We don’t know how the GPU looks like but judging from the timeline when it is supposed to be delivered we suspect that it might be a 28nm part," writes Fudzilla.
Looks like t'is the season for manufacturer deals, with Nintendo securing a contract with nVidia for a next-generation Nintendo DS handheld on top of this rumour.
