Xbox 360 Dashboard Update Available RIGHT NOW
The summer dashboard update for the Xbox 360 is now available to all Xbox Live members.

Major Nelson tells us, "Over the next few hours - or the next time you sign into Xbox LIVE after that - you’ll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update." SPOnG's turned on the 360 sat under our awesome telly and can confirm the update is indeed good to go.

A couple of points the Major wants you to bear in mind:

"- While you can browse and purchase Avatar items and full Xbox 360 games in the console with this update, the ability to add these items your Xbox 360 download queue from Xbox.com will be available this Thursday.
- Xbox LIVE integration with Twitter, Facebook and Last.FM will be available later this year.
- Zune Video Marketplace will also ship later this fall when it will replace the current Video Marketplace."

You can see the full feature set here.

Had this on trial and while the dashboard is a bit slicker, until the Zune/Twitter/FB/Last Fm sides of it arrive there is little for the gamers to get excited about.

Full Xbox 360 games are priced too high at £19.99 (cheaper in stores with no HD space issues)
Avatar clothing is a rip-off too

Add to this the increase in the average price of XBLA games, the increase in advertising and the lack of a price reduction and XBL is starting to take the piss.

Fingers crossed for Autumn.

@Paul_Rayment

I thought the dash was getting a make-over?

I don't seem to have the avatar marketplace, but I'm not bothered cos I wouldn't use it anyway, I agree about the games on demand though, they're way over priced.

as for s**tter, faceblock and the other crap to come, I couldn't careless.

Is there really all that much for GAMERS to be excited about regarding Twitter/FaceBook/LastFM integration? I know these thing will appeal to some people, but will Twitter/FB integration really result in anything more than a load of "Iz abut to pla Halo, it r r0x0r" status updates?

Last FM integration is merely a sop to the XBox's media centre capabilities, and while it's a perfectly adequate media centre, it's not a particularly good one (neither is the PS3). In fact, there isn't a really good Media Centre yet, and while the government allows Murdoch to keep his CAM proprietary there's not likely to be one.
