Pre-E3 Rumour Roast: PS3 Redesign
It's that fallow time before a major conference/expo in which wishlists become rumours and rumours - by force of wish - become facts: yes, it's the Pre-E3 Sense of Rumour. First up is the PS3 Redesign.

PlayStationlifestyle shoots this one into the air as follows: "We didn’t get any specifics, but we speculate that it could be one of a couple different options.

"First off, it very well could be as simple as a white or a silver PS3, to go with the white and silver Dualshock 3’s that have been made available."

So, it's possible that there's going to be the new controllers in different colours. This might suggest the colour range to be extended to the console itself... But that's way too dull. So, "The other option, and the one we are leaning toward is a slimmed down, model. Maybe with some updated specs. Nothing major of course as to not alienate current PS3 owners..."

A slimmed-down model with updated specs that wouldn't alienate current owners?

Gamecentral is even more certain... "Sony is planning, in addition to the PlayStation Portable Go a hardware redesign to announce the upcoming E3."

G4TV takes a different angle on the PlayStationLifestyle tale: "...it could be a new PlayStation 2 or something else entirely."

All excellent stuff. So, based on the above information - and remember, you read it here first - we're speculating that it's going to be Xbox-compatibility for the PS2 via a dongle!

More 'Pre-E3 Sense of Rumour'... we're sure.

Well it will happen, it happened with the PS1, PS2 and it will happen with the PS3.

With a smaller chip process coupled with the fact that there is already a lot of empty space inside the PS3 there is plenty of room to make it smaller.

However it would be nice instead of bigger hard drive sizes that they re-released the original PS3 with all the features.

No, that it is not the xbox360 ;)

Updated spec, the latest Nvidia chipset architecture DX11 level for the Vista replacement due this year. So I can do CUDA/Open CL/raytrace on it (unlike the represent stupid thing). More cells, who needs them with the latest Nvidia chip, but would be nice. Faster speeds, that Rambus 1 TB/s memory due this year, faster on the graphics maybe but definitely that new memory.

But, you guys know how it goes, PSP GO, something else this year, and that PS3 upgrade next year :( . Still a pocket PS3, one cell, one slower Nvidia...?

BTW: who exactly is Intel singing up for their new chip?
