When Jarrard Woods decided to quit work with 2K Games Australia, one of the studios that worked on
BioShock, he decided to do it with a little flair. Rather than writing a note to his bosses, he wrote a game to get the message across.
The game was a mash-up of his own creation,
Polychromatic Funk Monkey, and
Super Mario Bros - though looking at it on his
website there's a
lot of the
Mario influence.
"Thank you 2K Australia! You gave me a paycheck, an incredible project and a world-class team to learn from. But my princess is in another castle. My last day is June 5, so I can still probably sign-off with ... Go Team!" the message reads.
Woods has worked at 2K Australia (formerly Irrational Games) for three and a half years, but wants to go do his own thing. "I'm into experimental game play", he said. "[That is] playing a game that doesn't play like any other game you've played before", he went on.
He intends to pursue this in an environment where millions of dollars haven't been pumped into development, demanding a return.
He promised that, in six weeks time, "indie gaming love will gush from [his] site".
