Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has just announced at his Game Developer Conference keynote that 50 million Wiis have now been shipped.
"It's even beyond what we possibly hoped for", Iwata told the crowd. "Global shipment of Wii is more than 50 million. That makes Wii the fastest selling video game hardware in history." Remember - that's shipment, not sell-through.
It was known previously that 50 million Wii processor chips had been shipped, so 50 million Wiis shifted won't shock too many people, but it's impressive nonetheless.
As of the end of December last year, 44,960,000 Wiis had been sold.
