Pressure mounts for PS3 price cut

Sony says Game Devs Want Free PS3s
A rather annoyed-sounding Peter Dille, senior VP of marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America, has said that developers want the company to give the PS3 away.

“Everybody in the development community would love for the PS3 to be free, so they could just sell razor blades”, he said to Bloomberg.

Based on other industry bigwigs quoted in the article, he's got a point.

“Sony obviously still has a ways to go with their pricing”, said Peter Moore, head of EA Sports. Of course, you might expect that from the former Mr Xbox and SEGA America boss.

There was also an indication from Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, that it might be a good idea to drop the price, however. “Anytime a console manufacturer reduces the price, software publishers benefit”, he said.

Dille, for his part, said that Sony has no immediate plans to reduce the PS3s price.

Oh, Sony. You should be giving some them away, because the way the global economy is now, people would be more tempted by a 360 or Wii, than a PS3.

Continue your suicide run, or cut that price to something more reasonable.
