IO Interactive, the developer behind
Hitman and
Kane & Lynch, has dropped the veil from its next project. It's a bit of a break from the gun-toting ways of the games IO's known for - it's called
Mini Ninjas.
While the dev has let fly with tonnes of eye candy from the game, it hasn't actually
said a vast amount. The bumpf, according to IO, goes like this: "Prepare yourself for a Ninja adventure like you have never seen before! Join Hiro, the smallest hero on the biggest adventure... blah blah blah...
"...blah blah harness the power of your Kuji magic and utilise the special skills of your Mini Ninja friends as you travel through a perilous world to reach the final confrontation with the Evil Samurai Warlord in his Fortress of Doom."
Yes, the hero is called 'Hiro', and the baddie is called 'Evil Samurai Warlord'. The characters all look cute but only have three fingers.
The game is set for release on the Wii, DS, Xbox 360, PC and PS3 in Autumn. It's worth noting that that is the order in which IO-Interactive lists the platforms, suggesting that Nintendo platforms are going to host what the dev sees as the key versions.
It's also worth noting that Eidos, the publisher that owns IO, is largely absent from the announcement. It may be that the struggling publisher is trying to keep its head down in the wake of its
most recent troubles and the initiation of
buyout talks.
Anyway, you can see a selection of the first screens and art below and catch more from the
Wii version here, from the
PS3/Xbox 360 here and from the
DS version here.
