There has been some fluster and bother regarding the upgrade to the New Xbox Experience (NXE) and that fact that you need 128Mb of free space to use it. For most users, this isn't a problem. For Core users, however, their lack of hard disc presents a major problem.
Talking of 'major' problems, Microsoft's mascot of the Xbox, Major Nelson,
promised a storage solution recently - but wasn't 'sharing' details. Well, now he has.
What you need to do is head over to the relevant local NXE memory page, in the case of the UK, that's
right here.
You then fill in the relevant details: serial number and Console ID, and you'll be offered the following options depending on your configuration and console.
Xbox 360 Core owners with active Live memberships and either 256 or 512MB memory units are being offered a £12.99 20Gb hard disk.
Xbox 360 Core owners with active Live memberships and with either 64MB of memory or none at all can get a free 512MB memory unit. You are, however, being offered the £12.99 HDD as an option.
Xbox 360 Core - if you haven't connected to Live for 12 months and you are without an HDD, your option is the £12.99 20GB HDD plus three months on Xbox Live for a total of £19.99.
Xbox 360 Arcade owners with Live subscriptions but no HDD, yup, it's the £12.99 HDD.
Xbox 360 Arcade owners with no HDD and no visits to Live in the last 12 months are offered the £19.99 deal.
