Microsoft has confirmed that the Woolworths' price cuts SPOnG told you about
last week were not specific to that retailer.
It will indeed cut the price of the Xbox 360 in the UK, bringing the cost of the entry-level Arcade to a massive £40 below the Wii.
The Arcade will now come with an estimated retail price of £129.99, dropping from £160. The next model up, with its 60GB hard drive, will now also cost less than the Wii (which costs £179) at £169.99. Previously it sat at £200. The 160GB Elite, meanwhile, drops from £260 to £229.99.
The price cut makes the most expensive 360 a clear £70 cheaper than the PlayStation 3, which currently weighs in at £299.99 with 80GB of hard disc space.
The new pricing scheme will take effect this Friday.
The price cut also puts the UK's Xbox 360 pricing very close to that in the US. Over there, Microsoft
announced a price cut a little under two weeks ago.
