Activision's Kotick: How to Innovate - Use Old Stuff

Activision Blizzard on the cutting edge of safety?

Posted by Staff
It's not easy being the head of a mega-corporation which, at least theoretically, deals on the cutting edge of the entertainment business. This is where Activision/Blizzard's CEO Robert 'Bobby' Kotick currently finds himself.

Having successfully steered Activision through its recent merger with Vivendi Games, Kotick and his team now have to find a way to achieve two major goals:

Goal 1: make a traditionally innovation-hungry consumer-base buy more of your games.

Goal 2: make a traditionally conservative and risk-adverse investor-based happy with your share-price.

Never fear though, Bobby has the answer the this paradox. He tells USA Today, "The most innovation comes from franchises that you own and control and have history with".

That's right gamers - the best way to innovate is with stuff that already exists. Discuss this on the Forum if you dare.
