The wait is finally (nearly) over. Sony has given us a release date for the DualShock 3 controller. July 4th (Friday!) is when we European folk will be able to feel a Sixaxis rumble.
SPOnG doesn't like to sound ungrateful, but... it's about bloody time! The DualShock 3 was
released in Japan last November, with the United States
getting it in April and the Aussies and New Zealanders
getting it before we did.
Sony's announcement confirms the price of the DualShock 3 as £39.99, a fiver more than a standard Sixaxis. The UK price drops in between the American and Australian prices. The US price is $54.99 (£27.60) while in Australia the pad will set you back AU$99.95 (£48.40). Considering that the Australian and US dollars are roughly one-to-one right now, that's a huge difference.
David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, in a statement that will shock no one, said, "We are delighted to confirm that DualShock 3 will be released in SCEE territories in early July. We hope this will add to the intense gaming experience for our fans, as we continue to evolve PS3, its software and its peripherals."
Just a small second there - but, doesn't Australasia come under the SCEE territory? Why,
yes, it does.
Sony reiterated that most future PS3 titles will feature rumble functionality, while many existing titles such as
Uncharted and
GT5 Prologue are compatible with the technology.
