Microsoft's corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios, Shane Kim, has stated that a redesign for the Xbox 360 is, "a possibility this generation".
Speaking about a system resdesign at the recent Microsoft gamers' day in San Francisco, Kim stated:
"But yeah, a redesign is a possibility, right.
"It's not something we ever did in the first generation, but it is a possibility this generation. Well it's not a big leap of faith to say look, that that's a significant possibility. But there's nothing to announce. That is one path that we could ultimately pursue, but it's not the only path. We could think about adding more value to the current form factor that we have as well. So miniaturisation is one approach, adding more value and capabilities to the current form factor that we have today is another."
Yes, of course, that is 74 words that can be boiled down to "We could redesign it or we could not". In terms of adding value and capabilities, Blu-ray is still not on the cards.
We will finish with one of the most illustrative examples of CorporSpeak we've seen in a very long time. When speaking about the future of
Project Gotham Racing, which how apparently lies with
Forza developer Studio 10, Kim declares, "And our goal is to roll the studio so that they can do more creative execution within the racing space.
"So, you can imagine a future where they would develop a new version of
Project Gotham Racing. We don't have anything concrete there, and I do think that after four versions of
PGR, it's really important for us to take a fresh creative approach to it and to really think about what we want the next version of
PGR to be if we do that."
Let's try and translate:
"Roll the studio" - Nope, we've got no idea about that one.
"...do more creative execution within the racing space" = 'Make better racing games'.
"...you can imagine a future" = '...with flying cars and teleportation and trees made of toffee.'
"...really think about what we want the next version of
PGR to be if we do that." - "and if we don't then I just said, 'Blah blah blah blah blah'".
