Mike Hickey is a financial analyst who specialises in video gaming fortune-telling. He works for Janco Partners. Mike's got a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance-Real Estate from Colorado State University. Mike says that Rockstar Games'
Grand Theft Auto IV is going to sell 5.8 million units in its first week on sale.
This is apparently, "nearly double the current record set by
Halo 3 last year", according to a report in the
New York Post. Bear in mind that, aside from quoting analysts,
The Post is better known for running headlines such as the 1983 classic, "Headless Body in Topless Bar".
Also worth noting is that this is the same Janco Partners' Mike Hickey
who, last month said, "Maybe the first week
GTA IV sales won’t do what ‘Halo 3’ did, but I can almost guarantee they’ll probably outsell
‘Halo 3’ in the first year".
Hickey's analysis is based on "pre-sales of the game, anticipated shipments and other data" - we assume he means worldwide sales, because this is not made clear.
If, however, the 5m mark is achieved - or other analysts support that hard-numbered conclusion, then EA might like to reconsider its $26 (£13) per-share offer for Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive.
