Sony has sent word confirming the long-rumoured upgrades to its PlayStation Store in PAL territories (we can't help but think it'll be all areas. The upgrades are due to hit in "mid-April", so just prior to
GTA IV's April 29th launch then? The good news is that the re-vamp includes an "improved navigation system, much greater scope for categorisation" and as well as a "new user interface", the platform holder tells us.
The bad news is that new additions to the store will cease for two weeks while the work is carried out. Content from the back catalogue will still be available, however. We're told that we'll see a "special update" in mid-April.
Sony is keen to point out that PSN accounts and virtual wallets will be unaffected.
SPOnG hopes that the overhaul will bring with it some technical improvements in the back end, too. Last week
GT5 Prologue was delayed as a download thanks to technical difficulties, while Sony had to contact numerous PlayStation Store users over a
potential breach in security.
You can see some screenshots of what the new store will look like above and below.
