Hotmail Down Globally Took Xbox Live With it?
If you've been having problems logging into Xbox Live then you're not alone. Microsoft reported earlier today a global outage of services that need a Microsoft login - that, of course means Xbox Live.

Initially this was viewed as a local difficulty - local to the USA and Canada. It was then confirmed that the issue was global.

Forbes among others reported Microsoft spokeswoman Samantha McManus stating that, "We are aware that some customers may be experiencing difficulty accessing their Windows Live accounts.

"We're actively investigating the cause and are working to take the appropriate steps to remedy the situation as rapidly as possible."

As we put this story live, however, we are not experiencing any issues connecting.

Did you having Xbox Live problems? Tell us about it in the Forum.

The Microsoft spokes-lass seemed convinced that there was an outage rather than just an upgrade.

Are you friends in the UK or scattered around the world? I'm trying to get some clarity on all the reports from last night.

Any updates would be gratefully received.

Cheers

Hi Tim,

Usually when there is a problem with my friends logging into Live they usually ask me what the problem is as I am always on the gaming sites looking at the latest news or on Major Nelson's blog.

My friends are from all over the world, and I got no messages about anyone having problems loggin into Xbox Live - I have 99 friends on my friends list.

I was able to log into Live Messenger and Xbox Live but I was unable to log into Hotmail, after trying a few times I was eventually faced with a notification of an update for Live Messenger which I installed and it improved the interface, after this installation I was able to log into Hotmail.

Hi, SS4,

That's good to know. As the story was blowing up into a storm last evening.

Great stuff. I wonder why Microsoft was stating that it was having troubles then?

Thanks for the info though!

Hi Tim,

I just rang Microsoft and spoke to a person who I have been speaking to regarding Xbox 360a and such and have been told that 1 of the servers went wrong hence the issues, he said some Xbox Live gamers 'might' have had issues signing in as in most cases your Live ID is linked to your Xbox Live gamertag so it could have caused issues.

So it was all down to a server issue which has been fixed.

Hi SS4,

Excellent stuff. So, it was a server issue. Was it global... I wonder who supplies their servers? IBM?

About time Xbox Live got itself extracted from single bloody Hotmail sign-in I say!

Cheers

was only pulling his leg i didnt really ring and they didnt really tell me they never heard of him that would be absurb, but the outage as follows!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7266007.stm

This could account o it being global but not affecting everypme, as it would be dependant on the server your hotmail account uses, ie homtmail.com/.co.uk etc

Then why would the power outage only effect 1 server? And for Hotmail?

To actually quote the person who I spoke to who is a very nice guy to talk to he said 'The server kind of went skitzso' if thats the right spelling and lauged.

Tim if you want give me the number to contact you and I can give you that persons details - when I click contact the filter is on at work and will not let me view the page.
