Sony's PlayStation 3 has hit the one million sales mark in the UK, according to Chart-Track.
The market researcher also revealed that Sony's console has been outselling the Xbox 360 over the last month. “It has been outselling 360 for the last four weeks, but they were neck and neck over the Christmas period, weeks 49-52”, said Chart-Track director Dorian Bloch to industry mag
MCV†.
The PS3 has been on the market since March 23rd in the UK, so it's taken around 46 weeks to hit the million mark - that's faster than the PS2, which took 50 weeks.
The Wii, which hit the mark in August,
took 38 weeks to get there. The Xbox 360, meanwhile, took 60 weeks to sell that many units.
This comes hot on the heels of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) president and CEO, David Reeves, saying that the PS3 will
outgrow the 360's installed base in PAL territories by the end of summer.
Similarly, Electronic Arts has released figures showing that it
expects the PS3 to outsell the 360 worldwide this year.
