Infinity Ward has been a busy developer over the last couple of days.
Call of Duty 4 for the PC has been patched. The company also claims to have fixed server-side errors on the PS3 version that apparently began following
yesterday's firmware update, 2.01.
Of the PC patch Infinity Ward tells us:
"This patch optimizes the Lean view offset issue, addressing the glitch reported by several community members and documented and sent in directly by community member GaretJax which is commonly referred to as the Left / Vertical Lean Glitch, in addition to preparing files for compatibility with the future release of the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Mod Tools. This patch will update all previous versions of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to v1.2"

Meanwhile, Infinity Ward also tells us that it has resolved various errors that have occurred with the PS3 version of
CoD4 since Sony's V2.01 firmware update. The developer's community relations manager tells us in the official Charlie Oscar Delta forum, "You should no longer be receiving this error message or any other issues related to the firmware update in the game. Thank you to everyone for giving us the heads up on this so we could start tracking down answers, and getting it resolved and please let us know if you have any additional issues."
That said, there are still gamers reporting issues since Infinity Ward made the statement. The main problem related predominantly to connection issues for people trying to play online - issues that could be fixed on Infinity Ward's end without a patch.
There have also been several 'reports', however, of PS3s freezing while players have been trying to play offline. One poster
wrote, "Has anyone else tried offline multiplayer? My whole ps3 freezes when I try to start a match. You would think if online was fudged up at least you could play offline..."
One the responses to this included, "Same error for me : DW update file error 102 - BD_EXCEPTION_IN_DB'
"When I try to change my classes, that error is displayed, I can play on line without problems, but not save my new accesories."
Whether these are across the board issues or faults tied to unfortunate units is - as always - open to question. Activision and Infinity Ward are taking it seriously however. Apparently there is a client-side,PS3 patch in the works. It has been in preparation since November 15th, however, which precursors the 2.01 firmware update by a week.
Of said patch, Infinity Ward's community relations officer said back on the 15th, "The patch is finished, just a matter of submitting it to Sony for approval which is the part we can guesstimate on, as that's out of our hands, whenever they say it's safe for you guys to download. It's typically not a long process within a few weeks, but then again, can't say because it's totally out of our hands once we ship the patch off."
SPOnG has contacted Activision and was told, "We'll do everything in our power to resolve all problems. We responded to the server issue very quickly - we care very much about our
Call of Duty community."
