Will Xbox Originals Have Achievements? No.

Righteous gamer anger at Major Nelson

Will Xbox Originals Have Achievements? No.
You come up with a good idea: release a bunch of back catalogue games over an online service and call it 'Virtual Arcade"... whoops... Xbox Originals. It can't go wrong... well it could if you confuse the message, or if the downloadable Xbox Originals don't contain unlockable achievements.

In that case, you hand the bad news delivery to your standard bunch bag - in this case, you hand it to Larry - Major Nelson - Hyrb.

Before we go on, what games are we talking about? These ones (1,200 Microsoft Points - £10.20 each):

Halo
Crimson Skies
Psychonauts
Fuzion Frenzy
Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex
Burnout 3: Takedown

This is what Larry says:

“I have gotten quite a few questions about yesterday’s Xbox Originals announcement. Specifically, folks want to know if these games will have additional functionality like Achievements and Gamer score. The answer is no….These are the original games that were created before Xbox 360. In order to preserve the integrity of the original gaming experience they provide, they will have the features available at the time of their initial release," the Major says on his blog.

He added, "Would it have been cool? Sure it would...but as many folks have noted, for a variety of reasons it's just not possible."

Which folks? Where are these folks? Thanks Larry... thanks for nowt.

Does this seem "not cool" to you? Are you like, "No way!" Or are you like, "Wateva... no biggie", shut us up as we try to sound street and that by telling us what you think on the Forum below.

So lets see,

No achievemants.
Basically uploaded off the disc in its original state with no improvements to BC so problems are fixed.
Cost over £10.

Nice...

Again, you could say the same for Nintendo's Virtual Console. £10 for an N64 game (older than an XBOX game) with even more stripped down features like lack of a virtual Memory Card and rumble etc?

For the price, it's damn good and I would love to see some XBOX support since Microsoft dropped the 360's predecessor like a dead donkey. Shows they're trying at least. And really, are Achievements and updates that big of a deal when you're getting essentially the same service as the Virtual Console? I don't remember Microsoft claiming that this was going to be any different to this, so why are people getting so uppity about it? Get over it.

I am no Microsoft-lover, despite what some filthy rumour-mongers at SPOnG might tell you, but I have to side with Svend on this one. Though I must also say I do think £10 is just a tad too pricey...

As much of a Xbox fan i am.. i wont be paying £10. for a game you can buy on ebay for a few quid including postage.

I think this is quite ridiculous to be honest as you can blatently see that they are sqeezing more and more money out of us through the marketplace.

Buying a really old arcade game, for instance, for like 5 quid which is HD improved and you can get some achievements is ok as the game is improved and you can get extra achievements (obviously, i know).

But buying an original xbox game for 10 quid with no achievements and no hd improvement (probably) is trying to make us pay money for stuff that Microsoft now pays practically nothing for.

Its the same with Guitar hero songs, extra maps for other games, additional gamer pictures, themes. In fairness to microsoft, yes it is brilliant from there perspective but we, the consumer, are paying for what costs nearly nothing. Surley they make enough money from game sales and xbox live memberships to support them.

FINALLY...with an incentive for other people to buy Burnout 3 again means more online competition! I've been playing the same few dozen people for a while. I would play Burnout Revenge, but the plow through cars feature is just SO idiotic, taking so much of the skill out of the game...
