Hell Hints At DivX For Xbox 360
The Xbox 360 may be getting another string to its multimedia bow in the form of DivX video compression.

Asked in a recent conference call whether he could confirm that DivX is now included in Microsoft's media extender and whether we will soon be seeing Xboxes with DivX on them, DivX's acting CEO, Kevin Hell said:

“Yes! That, uh, we’re in discussions with Microsoft on that at this point in time, so I can’t go into any great detail on that. Um that is not a certified, that is not a certified or licensed product at this time.”

So, "Yes!" but "Erm... no"? There's tough talk if ever SPOnG heard it.

Clearly, at this point DivX's inclusion in the 360 is far from a reality, but it's inclusion would make many a techie 360 owner very happy. The move would also give Microsoft another leg up in the multimedia stakes against the PS3. Since the company's being so sluggish about giving us downloadable TV and film content in Europe, SPOnG reckons it should be grabbing every leg up it can get...
